Pepsi

From ArticleWorld

Pepsi-Cola is a carbonated soft drink that is produced by PepsiCo and is sold in restaurants, vending machines, and stores all over the world. Pepsi is very similar to Coca-Cola and is also their number one rival.

Origins

Pepsi originated in the 1890’s and was invented by pharmacist Caleb Bradham in North Carolina and was introduced as "Brad’s drink". It was first used as a way to cure stomach aches and pains. Pepsi was trademarked a decade later in June, 1903. The name "Pepsi" came from dyspepsia, meaning stomachache or indigestion, because of its intended use.

Diet Pepsi was put on shelves in 1964 and has grown to be one of the most bought types of Pepsi. When Diet Pepsi was introduced, it was the first and only diet soft drink on the market. There are many new types of Pepsi on the market with varying tastes, such as Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Black Cherry Pepsi, Vanilla Pepsi, and Diet Vanilla Pepsi.

Pepsi vs. Coke

Many claim that Pepsi tastes exactly the same as Coca-Cola, while others say they can tell a difference between the two. When the two drinks were originated the taste varied more than it does today, but Coca-Cola changed their drink formula to be more like that of Pepsi when their rival started becoming more popular.

Even though they changed to be more like Pepsi, Coca-Cola is still the more popular of the two soft drinks and outsells Pepsi in most areas worldwide. Places that Pepsi outsell Coke include Saudi Arabia, some Canadian provinces, the state of North Dakota and Utah.

Pepsi and Coke oddly enough sell in different arenas. Pepsi is sold more in convenient and grocery stores in America while Coke is sold more in movie theaters, parks, colleges, stadiums, and restaurants.
