Proof of purchase

From ArticleWorld

A proof of Purchase is a confirmation in the form of a receipt, UPC code, email confirmation number, or other indication that a product was purchased. Often this proof of purchase includes the date and time of original purchase, or includes a code (which is what the UPC code is usually used for) which refers to a product package.

Proofs of purchase are often used in sales promotions and rebate offers from an advertiser to help increase awareness and customer participation in the company advertising a specific good or service. They are also used in refunds and exchanges

Uses of Proofs of Purchases

Proofs of purchase are used in many different types of promotions. Some popular promotions that require proof of purchase is the participation of sweepstakes (although usually no new purchase is necessary), the distribution of rebates, product updates, and more.

Proof of purchase can also be a way for corporations to keep track of all the feedback they get from their customers. Also, if a return or exchange is needed for a defective item, sometimes a proof of purchase is needed when the return is directly to a manufacturer.

Additional documentation besides the UPC symbol on the side of a package is usually required in most cases. Usually a receipt is required to prove that a customer has purchased a product as well. These are required for all the same purposes that UPCs are usually requested, and they are usually more commonly requested than UPCs.

Most of the time a proof of purchase can be brought into the retailer where a purchase was made for a refund, exchange, or rebate. However, sometimes the proof of purchase has to be mailed in to the manufacturer.
