His Talent
Robert began playing the guitar at the age of 12. He was only 17 when the Cure began as a band.
Robert has a wavering falsetto style to his voice that is truly unique and impossible to miss.
His Instruments
Robert Smith has played the 6 and 12 string guitars; 4 and the 6 string bass guitars; double bass in various combinations at his concerts. He can also play piano; drums; violin; trumpet and trombone.
Normally at a Cure concert there will be a rack with all the instruments for Robert to choose from.
His love
When he was 14 years old he met Mary Poole and they have been together since. They married in 1988 and he wrote and performed Love Song for her as a wedding present.
Motivation
Robert Smith has 3 motivating factor in his music, drugs, lack of sleep, and his dear wife. Disintegration was a CD that he had written when they were having problems, the CD is one of their more somber and mellower albums.
Image
Robert has always been easy to spot with his red lipstick and wild black hair. The lipstick began when, high on opium, he took Siouxsie’s lipstick and placed I ton himself, during a concert of hers.
His hair appears to be strewn in every direction. It has been referred to as a spider on his head. Between this and his lipstick he has been labeled as Goth, but this is something that to this day he denies.
Current
To this day, he is still the lead singer for the Cure and is still working on solo work as well. He writes or co writes almost everything that is released by the Cure and has also assisted with Siouxsie’s work on the short lived band, The Glove.
