The history of Brisbane begins in the 1820’s when John Oxley came in search of a place in which to establish a penal colony. From these humble beginnings, Brisbane was granted city status in 1902 and has developed into a thriving city. The capital of Queensland, it successfully hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games and now boasts an infrastructure worthy of a modern Australian city.
