The term Legumes can have two meanings in Botany. The first one refers to plant species categorized as a part of the Fabaceae Family. The second one refers to a type of fruit (ie: leguminous plants). Most legumes are fixing atmospheric nitrogen. This is done through a symbiosis with different bacteria, the most common one being rhibozia (found in root nodules of most legumes).
