Milk is the nutrient fluid produced by mammals through the mammary glands. This characteristic of females is a defining characteristic of mammals. Newborns are given a primary source of nutrition through milk. Dairy products such as cheese or yogurts are derived from milk. Human milk is fed to infants through breastfeeding. The early lactation milk is referred to with the term colostrum.
