New Wave music

The name New Wave itself is a source of much confusion. Seymour Stein, the head of Sire Records, used this term in reference to the French New Wave movement in film of the 1960s.
Since many of the bands in his label were the start of a new style of music and were somewhat experimental. They were also anti-corporate, and part of a generation that had grown up as critical consumers of the arts.

Fashion
The New Wave movement started a number or fashion statements such as hairstyles like those from the band Flock of Seagulls, and Thompson Twins. It was an infusion of color and bi-colored glasses. It also had an introduction of Spandex, fluorescent colors, and little trinkets and ornaments.
MTV
During the time of New Wave a new concept was introduced and that was MTV’s ability to present videos This caused a new stir to create videos so that the bands could promote themselves.
It was on here that fashions of New Wave were seen directly in their full glory. This was a good marketing play for not just the music, but also the fashion that was born in this genre.
The end
New Wave started to falter in 1986 then faded entirely around 1992. Although New Wave was to continue having an impact on music for the years to come.
Revival
As of late it is making a surprising comeback and is now big in the mega cities of the United States. It appears to be showing signs of a revival and a draw to the roots of where the music began. Whether this will happen or not, New Wave was the Mecca for many newer genres of music.
Many of the newer bands are also drawing on the New Wave roots for their music, such as the Killers and the three hits that they had in the United States.
