Part time

From ArticleWorld

A part time job makes reference to the number of hours an employee works. Part-time jobs differ from full-time jobs for a variety of reasons.

Benefits of part-time work

A part-time job typically allows the worker more flexibility than a part-time job. In addition, it allows the worker to have more free time since the worker is committed to fewer hours. For this reason, it is often a popular choice among women with children or people who work other part- or full-time jobs or a contracted position. It allows for an individual more time.

Often, a part-time employee is paid hourly and is therefore able to collect pay if her or she works more hours than scheduled.

Downfalls

A part-time job typically offers no benefits or employer contribution to benefits (like health insurance and paid sick leave). A part-time worker enjoys less perks than a full-time employee.

Since most part-time jobs are hourly and not salaried, the worker cannot be sure of exactly what the paycheck will be each week. If there is less work and the worker works fewer hours, than the pay will be less for that pay period. It traditionally offers less security than a full-time position.

Options

If a full-time job is found but someone only wants to work part time, they can propose a job sharing arrangement where two part-time workers perform one full-time job, typically on rotating schedules.

Some part-time work allows for telecommuting, which is even more appealing to people in search of flexible schedules.
