Biological weapons are those biological agents, such as toxins, microbes or other biochemical agents that are used to create a bioterroristic threat against another population of humans. Biological weapons are often used by terrorist groups. The Biological Weapons Convention is a signed document by over 160 entities since 1972 that specifically prohibits those entities from developing, producing or stockpiling quantities of biological agents used as weapons. The use of these agents for defensive purposes is not prohibited under the Convention.
